We were afraid a lot had changed, especially shops disappearing and landmarks fading.

We went on a quick 2 days 1 night weekend trip with two other friends. It mainly consist of a lot of eating, and quite a bit of walking.

Philly was still how I remembered it, just like NYC but a lot less congested. We revisited places like City Hall, Independence Hall, Pat's and Geno's. We stroll along new places like the Italian Market and the Franklin Fountain.

It was a good weekend getaway especially for the change of scenery. Our favorite seafood restaurant was still there, which we were ecstatic about. Oyster House has definitely gotten more popular. They even changed their happy hour which used to be 5-7pm and 9-11pm, we usually went for the latter since it usually means less people. But nowadays, happy hour on Friday is only 5-7pm and weekends are 9-11pm. We were lucky enough to snatch a table within a 15 minute wait. The oysters and clams here are the best, they're fresh and full of meat. Not briney or salty at all and they're just $1 during happy hour - can't express how much I loooove this place. And a new discovery this time around, the New England Clam Chowder is pretty bomb also.

Our 2 days in Philly involved a lot of sandwich eating. We had four Philly cheese steaks and 2 pork sandwiches. For the pork, I like DiNic's better. The pork is sliced thinner, the broccoli rabe gives a nice crunch and dimension to the sandwich and the provolone was sharp but not overpowering. As for the cheese steaks, I realized that J and I can't choose between Pat's or Geno's. I know I've mentioned in the past that Geno's was better but after this past weekend, it felt like both sandwiches complimented each other a lot more than anything else. The juiciness of Geno's made up for the lack sauce that Pat's didn't have; and Pat's cheese and generous amount of steak made up for the few slices of meat that Geno's offered.

Other honorable mention during this trip was Franklin Fountain - delicious ice cream, the Hydrox Cookie (what an awesome name) basically tasted like cookies and cream but so much better, the cookies were soft, not crunchy or hard, and it blended with the ice cream so well; Federal Donuts - the honey butter donuts was just as good as I remembered it, the story goes that I ate the only donut five years ago when we ordered it with the fried chicken (I was drunk when I devoured it), luckily this time around they were willing to sell the honey butter donuts without an order of fried chicken - WIN!

Side note - after this mini trip, I definitely need another trip. Actually, I need a vacation where I can just lounge, soak up the sun and drink. Also, J and I are planning our Japan trip coming this fall, exciting!
We love food.
Well, to be more precise, we love good but simple food. We're not the type to go all out and dine somewhere fancy or try to snag up the latest food trend (because that will die out - eventually). We love food that are perfected in its simplicity, something like, a really good egg sandwich.

We definitely are adventurous eaters and we love traveling for food. 2017 was an interesting year especially with the wedding towards the latter. There were times where we held back but nonetheless, we didn't deprive ourselves from what we love most - FOOD.

The following is a list of my best eats of 2017 (I'm sure the husby will agree also *halo*).

Nutella Latte

Starting off 2017 with something really really bad. At this point, the husby and I should be on our "diet" for our photoshoot in Hong Kong but as you can see, we failed. But, the Nutella Latte at Prato Bakery was exceptionally good. I was never the type to like sweet drinks, especially sweet coffee. But this was totally different, the nutella was just smeared on the side of the glass and latte was filled up to the brim. If I wanted more sweetness I would just mix more of the nutella into the latte, genius!

AYCE

There was a number of stuff in Hong Kong that was amazing. One of them being this AYCE place on like the 8th floor of a building, Daimanki Japanese Restaurant - hard to find but definitely worth your time trying. The quality was beyond my expectation and the presentation was beautiful. The best part was the sashimi, but they also had cooked food like grilled prawns, lamp chops, seafood and endless amounts of desserts and drinks - alcoholic drinks.

Yup, fresh out of the oven-morning breakfast-fluffy and pillowy bun. The HK-ers love their butter with these buns but just on its own is phenomenal. I just want to roll around in them and eat my way through the pillowy-ness. This bakery definitely has one of the absolute best pineapple bun ever.
So unhealthy but so satisfying. The crunchiness on the outside and the juicy interior makes for a deadly combo, add on some sweet sauce and mustard, it's a quick street food that's a staple in HK. The quality and hospitality was top knotch. Each piece of sushi was more superb than the last (how is that possible?!). This particular piece of o-toro (fatty tuna) with caviar and gold flakes stole the show for that night. Yea, I'm kind of pretty easy to impress.

The husby used to live in Maine for about 2 years and whenever I was there, I had to have their fried clams. Ever since, it was hard to find anything close to being good in NYC. Cape House proved that wrong. We were so happy to finally have found a seafood house that fries really good seafood. Crispy, light and airy but you don't get cheated with the clam meats. Heaven!

Never would I thought I would have the best grilled pork ever in Chania, Crete (a Greek island!). It was tender, moist with the right thickness. I will always long for it at Pork to Beef Wild, the sandwiches there were great too. We somehow stumbled to this place after bottles and bottles of wine, best drunk food ever although I'm not going to admit I was drunk...

The husby and I were on a free walking tour in Athens, Greece. Our group was lucky enough to taste a little homestyle cooking - fresh from the oven. Similar to lasagna in which it has pasta, meat sauce and bechamel sauce (the only different ingredient). It tasted comforting and home-y, it was a great treat. It also made me very determined to try and recreate this dish back in the states since the husby loved it a lot.

There goes my best eats of 2017. Now you see what I mean about how we like food in its simplicity. I hope 2018 will hold more best eats as there aren't any restrictions to our diet!
An eventful year.
An unforgettable year.

The majority of the year was spent planning for the wedding. It definitely wasn't a hard task but it was really time consuming.

The husby and I went to Hong Kong for a pre-wedding photoshoot, visited his family and made a small trip out of it with our friends. A week was not enough, especially the passion we have for Hong Kong. But, we did need to save up the days for other errands and in preparation for the wedding that happened in November.

At the end of May, the husby and I had another engagement photoshoot. This time we had it in New York City, the place where we grew up and fell to love (along with some hate relationship there). The photoshoot was with a Vietnamese singer (from Paris by Night), she use to perform but now that she's married to her husband which is the photographer (how perfect!) she does the styling for the shoot. It meant so much to me to have them as our photographers!

My high school friend, Susan got married in June. In which, we had her bachelorette trip in May. We traveled to Cancun, I took this opportunity to relax. I also tried to make sure I didn't get a sunburn or tan too much. It was a much needed getaway.
Being a bridesmaid for a Chinese wedding is always hectic. From getting ready in the morning, to the wedding photos, to being a "tea lady" and helping with the tea ceremony, to making sure the bride is a-ok, can really exhaust a person. But, it's all worth it for that special friend. Plus the adrenaline rushing through my body is quite something, especially when I lasted the whole day with heels! That was a record on its own.

As the summer was rolling by, the husby and I knew we didn't have that much time left to prepare for the wedding. I actually binged watched a Korean drama about a month before the wedding. This drama was what actually started getting the husby and me back into the realm of k-drama. Scarlet Heart: Ryeo was such a heartbreaking drama. My co-workers said I looked "emo." Well, anyone would after watching such a heart wrenching drama. So glad it didn't affect my emotions and attitude on the actual wedding day - haha. I honestly still can't get over the drama, praying for a season 2 like everyone else...

Finally, the biggest event of the year.
Our wedding.
The day was crazy. Long story short - my day started at 5am. Makeup and hair was done, then tea ceremony at my parents house, then his parents house. Afternoon pictures, then head to the venue. Cocktail hour with mad photos. Wedding reception begins, a little hiccup in the process (tables were all screwed up!), dances, food, booze, cake! Finally got to relax and unwind with some people. Step foot into apartment at around midnight.
Unforgettable and intense night but I would change nothing (not even the crazy tables - well maybe the crazy table screw-up...)

Felt surreal the day after. And, on top of the dreamy feeling, we had to pack for our honeymoon which was the next day.

Greece was probably one of the last options for a honeymoon but the deal was too good to pass. A lot of the planning was done last minute and we honestly just went with the flow. We visited Crete, Santorini and of course, Athens. Greece was beautiful and the food was phenomenal. Quite hard to believe that every step we took, we were walking on history.

The husby and I spent Thanksgiving morning with my family and evening with his family. My first American feast, it was actually quite delicious and we all devoured the turkey.

Christmas just passed recently. We don't usually celebrate it but that might just change next year.

New Years is around the corner. Although 2017 was a very special and spectacular year, I wonder what 2018 holds. Only one way to find out...

Excited for Miss Saigon with husby and my parents this weekend. I've seen it before but it was a good 10+ years. Many thanks to my husby for being so thoughtful and getting us all the tickets =D

One thing for sure, I'm in the middle of tax season and the wedding is inching closer. So much to do but now is not the time to do it. My fiance and I also booked a pre-wedding photoshoot in Hong Kong come April but that'll be in another post - I'd like to dedicate a whole post to it.

One thing that's different since the last year is that I changed jobs. I'm still with the same company but I decided to move to a different position which calls for less work but same pay - oh, and I get an office which is pretty sweet. It'll be different but I think I'll be a lot happier doing this than coming into work 6 times a week and working from like 9am to 11pm. To reflect back, I'm pretty proud of myself that I voiced what I want. Definitely wasn't easy but nothing comes on a gold plate.

Now that I don't work late nights and long weekends anymore, I'd like to blog more often. Maybe even pick up on vlog? Who knows.

My fiance and I are going out this Saturday to celebrate our 10th year of dating. To a place that is quite dear to us, Park Avenue. We haven't gone since they moved to a new location, but we do miss it. Looking forward to a well deserved peaceful evening with the husband-to-be.Linh N.L.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09234588242052139650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832162108377251809.post-51782531386682552862016-11-03T11:35:00.001-04:002016-11-03T11:35:17.111-04:00Wedding: Officially One Year AwayToday mark exactly 365 days until our wedding reception.

I think we're definitely in a pretty good shape since we got a lot done already. So far, the process has been quite the experience. I know there's going to be a lot more bumps in the road as we approach the date. But as of now, I'm going to take it easy for a bit.

Next year today, will be the day.Linh N.L.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09234588242052139650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832162108377251809.post-90262492154066903272016-10-17T16:09:00.000-04:002016-10-17T16:09:16.109-04:00Wedding: PhotographerTo be completely honest.

Finding a photographer (actually it's more like choosing) for our wedding was simple. I already had a photographer in mind for the longest time - I was just waiting for that moment - if you know what I mean.

I discussed my choice with the fiancé and luckily, it didn't take much to convince him. We agreed they were definitely one of a kind and that we would love to have them photograph our special day.

The process was easy. I reached out to them and we exchanged emails back and forth. We even facetime and met with each other. The reason being, they were located in Houston, Texas. They were very up-beat and you can feel the passion and love that they had for what they love to do.

So a little background of why I chose Tee Tran Photography.
When I was a very young little girl, my dad would buy VHS tapes and DVDs of Paris By Night. Paris by Night encompasses a lot of different Vietnamese songs and singers. I grew up watching and listening to it and pretty much fell in love with a singer. Ok, not totally in love but more like I loved her songs, I loved her singing, I loved her performance and energy. Each time my dad buys a PBN, I ask, is she in there? I would learn her songs and sing-a-long quite a lot.
Fast forward to my high school and college years, I found that she was no longer going to perform due to some medical complications. I then stopped watching PBN. Lucky for me and her fans, she was active on social media and soon enough, married Tee Tran.

Never had I thought I would work with Bao Han. The person that I idolized when I was young. For me, this definitely meant a lot which is why I think my fiancé went with the flow.

But that's besides the point, she's very fashionable and creates outfits that are super pretty out of affordable pieces that she finds. Her husband, Tee Tran's photography skills are quite different than your average. The angle, the skills, the directing that they both encompass are quite phenomenal...not to mention, they're quite goofy.

My fiancé and I are both looking forward to this experience and are totally psyched for them to capture the moments we have.Linh N.L.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09234588242052139650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832162108377251809.post-66860109876289158512016-10-14T16:06:00.001-04:002016-10-17T16:09:27.313-04:00Wedding: Venue HuntingVenue hunting is, hands down, one of the hardest things to decide on.

I started doing my research in June. A lot of it was browsing online and seeing what appealed most. At this point, the fiancé and I didn't even brainstorm what we want. I know a lot of people would jot down location, venue space, and things they look for in a wedding venue. We did none of that. I literally just clicked around through google, The Knot, Wedding Wire and random websites. If it looked nice and was fairly close, I emailed the venue asking for a general quote. In the email, I would include, general date of wedding and amount of people. Some places got back really quick and gave a very detailed breakdown along with a brochure. But we just weren't feeling it at that moment to continue looking and lock down a place. A lot of it had to do with not setting a date yet.

Finally, after a couple of months of back and forth, we settled on a date and decided it was time to really find a venue and started planning. We knew that if we locked down on a wedding venue, we would have to move forward with everything. No longer can we procrastinate.

Since June's research, we sort of knew what to expect and are more clear of what we are looking for. We broke it down to either the Long Island location - Glen Cove Mansion or New Jersey location - Liberty House Restaurant. For some reason, we weren't exactly satisfy with these locations. So, for one last time, I researched again.

I realized that it was definitely the price that played a big role in venue deciding. We switched from a September wedding to a November wedding because November is an off season month, which should cost less, right? Not by much though. After much browsing and googling, I saw Sunset Terrace at Chelsea Piers. I knew I reached out to them before but at that moment in June, they didn't appeal much. The second time around, after a lot of back and forth email along with endless googling of "weddings at Sunset Terrace," we were sold. Not to mention, the price per head was also very attractive.

We went in for a tour and it was no doubt that we would want our wedding here. It wasn't the grandest place but it was perfect for us. It was unique and has a great view of the Hudson River. You can see the Statue of Liberty and New Jersey (where we do reside now). Plus, it just felt right. Without hesitation, we asked our venue coordinator to draft up the contract right away. We left feeling relieved and accomplished. My fiancé and I were so glad we got this out of the way, we were also extremely happy that it was the first and only place we visited and liked. I definitely didn't want to be like my coworker that searched and toured over 20 places.

Some advice.
There is none that I want to give at all. Go into it blindly, cause honestly, that's the best part. Not knowing anything. Because it makes you look at places that you never thought you would. I told my fiancé that never in my dreams would I have thought to have our wedding in New York City, Manhattan of New York City. Don't give up and just keep looking, never settle for anything less.Linh N.L.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09234588242052139650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832162108377251809.post-43357162820291753892016-10-14T14:33:00.003-04:002016-10-14T14:33:18.830-04:00Fast ForwardI am engaged!

Well, since May but yes I will be getting married next year!
Getting married is honestly just once in a lifetime event and I'm going to try my best to log about the entire process. It's interesting, exciting and nerve wracking but it's something that I want to be able to look back to and just laugh at myself.

~~~
Rewind back to May of 2016. My then-boyfriend and I decided to head to Hawaii. Well, he's been talking about it for the longest time and I've decided that we'll go. It was a last minute decision so everything seemed kind of rushed. He always told me how good the food was there and the weather is gorgeous, that it's a great place to retire in. And so to shut him up about the non-stop food talk, I told him, let's just go to Hawaii. So, that's exactly what we did.
We chose to stay in the North Shore for 3 days and 4 days in Oahu. The days in the North Shore were beautiful and peaceful. We only had 2 full mornings in the North Shore since the 3rd morning was when we had to check out, so watching the sunrise was limited. We stayed at a small cottage place with a backyard that opened up to the ocean.
The boyfriend told me that we should watch the sunrise one of those mornings and I reluctantly agreed. The morning of, I felt so sluggish and asked why can't we just watch it from bed since our bed literally faces the water. He didn't nag on me much, which then made me feel guilty. I gave up and agreed to head out onto the lawn chairs. Good thing I didn't pass out while staring off into the sky. It was quiet and all you hear is the ocean water and random birds flying around. Finally, the sun was peaking out. Sitting there, I thought to myself, it would be great if he propose to me right now, it would be so darn perfect. And then, BAM...the next thing I knew, he was on his knees next to me and whipped out the RING! In my head, I was like omg omg omg it's happeningggggg!!! He was telling me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and that we should take the next step in our journey and I'm there just nodding away and holding back tears! Oiy...
Needless to say, my mind was read. It was a perfectly simple proposal and I couldn't ask for anything better. I was just floating on cloud 9 that day. Hawaii was just perfect.Linh N.L.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09234588242052139650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832162108377251809.post-74560344280147685452016-05-13T11:12:00.000-04:002016-05-13T11:12:36.362-04:00Moving AgainI feel a sort of disconnection with my blog.
I feel like I only blog whenever there's a big event in my life happening.
I feel awkward writing now.
But I shouldn't.
Life has been wild. Wildly boring. I'm mainly busy 3/4 of the year due to work, being an accountant is not easy but it's quite decent. That's why maintaining and blogging is such a struggle sometimes. Maybe that can change. One can only hope so.
The boyfriend and I are moving again. We moved last year to a nice cozy place in Sunset Park. It was near a lot of food and a big cultural concentrate of Chinese, Jews and Mexicans. After a year of living there, we found that the commute to work just wasn't working out. We both agreed to move to Jersey City. Never had I thought that I would one day be a Jersey resident. It's extremely close to New York but for some odd reason, I thought I would be a Connecticut resident before Jersey. Anyways, I'm pretty excited about this change of event. But, I do dread moving and packing. I have to say, I'm the worse at it. J is a lot better at packing things and using his tetris skills.
We only have a few days left. Hoping all goes well.
Both of these sheath dresses fitted well and was very flattering. It curved at all the right places and hit right above the knee for me. The neckline is definitely a bit more conservative and would probably be a huge mistake to wear on a hot and humid day, but still a good investment piece.
This was one of the cutest dress I've seen from Ann Taylor. Very flowy and feminine, perfect for a summer day. I liked the collar and the pockets, who can say no to pockets?
And thinking of how to get from point A to point B can be a headache when you don't want to spend a fortune. JDL and I always try to learn the country's metro if they have, it saves money, time and gives you a glimpse of how the locals travel.
Upon arriving in Paris, a lot of people opt for car service or taxi because it's so convenient and easy. But it also cost the most. A ride from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the central of Paris can be roughly 50-80 euros (60-100 usd). There's also the bus option which is the cheapest, around 10 euros but only drops you off at certain stations. JDL and I stuck to the train system Paris offered.
If you're traveling to Paris for the first time like I was, this will definitely be useful.
First thing first, there's basically 2 main train systems in Paris. The regular Metro and the RER. The RER is more of a rail (like NYC's LIRR or metronorth) whereas the metro takes you around central Paris. The metro is color and number coded while the RER is color and letter coded. There are 14 main metro lines and 5 main RER lines.
So with that said...
We landed in Terminal 1 at the airport and needed to take the train which was in Terminal 3. Once we've gotten our luggage and headed towards the "exit" we saw signs of where to take the train, it's fairly easy at that point, just follow the directions on the signs. Once we arrived at the "station" we saw ticket vending machines. As Americans, our credit cards did not work so we had to wait on line to buy the tickets from the teller. Language was not a problem here since the tellers were probably approached by many foreigners. The tickets to Central Paris was roughly 9.75 euros per person and the teller even told us which platform it was on. From then on, it was simple. Just wait for the train, hop on and get off at your destination.
The trains and stations are very clean in Paris. Trains can be a bit cramped but the stations are extremely clean. A neat little tid bit I found was when hopping on or off the train, notice the doors. Some have buttons or latches which you need to press or lift in order for the doors to open, while others just open automatically.
Paris is split up into different zones and not any boarding ticket can let you go to whichever zone you want. The regular metro tickets can get you anywhere from zone 1-3 which is basically central Paris. Lets say you want to go to the Palace of Versailles, you can't just use a regular metro ticket, you would have to buy the RER ticket instead which cost a bit more but lets you go to zone 4 which is where the palace is.
Let me put it this way. If you were planning to go Versailles, don't try to buy your tickets in advance because the cost of the ticket is different from each station (the price is determined from the distance of travel hence the price difference from each station). If you know which station you are leaving from, then go ahead and use the machine to purchase your ticket from that station. You can enter your destination into the machine and it will calculate the amount you need to pay and spit out a ticket for you. For the rail aka RER, remember to not throw the tickets away after using it to go through the turnstile, you might just need it to exit the platform later.
A very useful website which I had use prior to the trip is from Feels Like Home In Paris. Linh N.L.http://www.blogger.com/profile/09234588242052139650noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832162108377251809.post-91416192610785598422015-01-17T16:35:00.000-05:002015-01-27T10:43:56.868-05:00Thanksgiving in ParisParis is a beautiful place to be, any time of year, period.
JDL and I decided to head to Paris during Thanksgiving, we were overdue for this trip since last year. The reason we chose Thanksgiving was because we knew Paris didn't celebrate it and we weren't exactly tied down to celebrate this holiday.
I have to admit, Paris was intimidating at first. But with the right amount research we did and landing in Paris with an open-mind, we had a great time. Things worked out when we thought it didn't. This trip was definitely one of those trip in which we came back learning a lot and it broaden our knowledge about traveling abroad.
-------
To be honest, for our first trip to Paris, JDL and I really tried to fit a lot in our schedule. We tried to hit a good amount of tourist spots (because they're a must see if you're in Paris). We tried to visit and eat all the "must eats" in Paris. Even though a week might sound like a lot of time, we weren't able to cover everything because Paris is just that big. With all the traveling, our main source of transportation was the Metro. And if you can master NYC subway maps, Paris's Metro should be slightly simpler to handle minus the language barrier.
Things I've experienced and want to share:
1) The streets and roads in Paris are confusing. They don't have street signs in the middle or corner of the street, but it's actually embedded into the side of the building on every corner. They also have a lot of intersected corners, barely any parallel streets.
2) Make sure to make reservations for restaurants you want to eat at, especially those Michelin and more well-known ones. There's a couple of restaurants which JDL and I walked into that only took reservations, no walk-ins.
3) Make a note when you're on the train if you need to press a button or turn a latch to exit or climb on the train, don't just stand there and expect the train doors to open, they're all different.
Paris through our eyes...
Living in NYC, it's rare that the public schools get closed so I was extremely surprised that it was closed this Friday. It also gave me a reason to work at home, I refuse to go out in the snow when I can stay home and be cozy - that might be a sign that I'm getting old.
It was freezing the past 2 days and it's not going to get any warmer. Monday is going to be ugly with some rain and Tuesday is going to be freezing again. I don't mind ugly weather, but I mind when I have to carry my work laptop around - can anyone relate?
After coming back from a small vacation, I really miss being lazy and just doing whatever I like at my own pace. I can't wait for my next vacation which I think will be planned way ahead of time this year.
There were so many places up in the air for us to go to but in the end, we chose to go back to Pennsylvania. We spent 2 days in the city and 2 days in the Amish countryside at a bed and breakfast.
This small getaway was for us to unwind and relax before facing 2014. We took it nice and slow to try and enjoy each other's company. We revisited old place and found new places we like, nothing better than spending time with the person you love.
For New Year's Eve, we stayed at Candlelight Inn in Ronks, Pennsylvania. A beautiful house owned and ran by a sweet middle-age couple. The rooms were beautiful, especially when you have your own private jacuzzi. A place I would definitely recommend and most definitely come back if given the opportunity.
As for 2014, I'm thankful that 2013 was actually better than I thought. I hope 2014 would be just as great or even better. I already know 2014 is going to be a tough year but you can always find something great in something that's bad. Happy New Year everyone!
I'm sure 2014 will be as much fun as 2013 if not better. Another year down and many more to come.
As for me, I'll be spending the last couple of 2013 days with my boyfriend with a small getaway. I wasn't able to take vacation this summer so this is very much needed.
To a happy and healthy New Year with whomever you spend it with. Cheers!
It was scary and something I definitely learned from.
I got into a minor car accident recently and it has shaken me up quite a bit. I was being sandwiched and pushed to the curb on the road and eventually my tires were slashed and broken. It was my first time encountering this so everything was new. I was so glad that a police officer came by and offered to help. He called another 2 of his colleagues and they were able to help me change my tire (yes, I'm completely clueless about tire changing). I couldn't get any information on the car that pushed me to the curb but it did taught me to be more careful and if you can, try to glance and remember the license plate so you can report it. Another thing that crossed my mind was, I'm fairly lucky. I'm still alive and there's actually nice Samaritans in this world.
On a lighter note, NYC's weather has been wishy-washy but tights and dresses will never go out of style.
No stress about getting turkey or inviting relatives over because my aunts are planning the entire thing this year. It feels quite great to be so carefree, especially when I took the whole week off from work also.
I've been lounging around at home and doing absolutely nothing except watching some movies and knitting (it's actually quite relaxing and a great gift to give during Christmas!).
The weather in NYC is crazy. Going to be raining the next two days and then Thanksgiving day is going to be blistering cold, including Black Friday. So, the outfit below pretty much fits the mood. Btw, have you guys already planned out your Friday shopping strategies?
Shop.
So, I'd like to share my thoughts about savings to maximize your satisfaction with shopping.
I was first introduced to Ebates a couple of years ago but it wasn't until recently that I use it every time I do online shopping. Ebates is a program which gives you a certain percent cash back when you shop through their website. It's really easy to use and also really beneficial when you do a lot of shopping. It's no gimmick, you do get cash back, either direct debit or a check.
It's quite simple, you can register through here (I do get a bit of incentive if you register through the link) or here (if you don't want to use the previous link I provided for any personal reasons). Once you're registered and set up your account, you're ready to shop.
Always remember to log into your account before clicking on anything on the website.
Once you're logged in, you can view your account and how much you already got back on the upper right hand side. On the left side would be all the retailers you can shop at which gives you cash back, click on the drop down to see more. Not all brands/retailers/websites are listed here but it doesn't hurt to always check before you continue on with your shopping.
Once you found where you want to shop at, just click on it and Ebates will automatically generate a tracking ticket which it will use as proof that you had complete the purchase to give you the cash back. You can also use that tracking ticket number to contact customer service about any issues you had.
Here are some examples/scenarios that might be helpful --
(a) I want to buy an item from a big department store like Macy's, Neiman Marcus, or JCPenny (just to name a few). But the cash back on one of the stores is higher than the others but they all carry the item that I want. So here, the best bet is to purchase from the seller that gives the most cash back to maximize my cash received.
(b) I want to buy an item I found at this website because I was browsing through it, but when logged into Ebates found out that they did not participate with Ebates.com therefore I tried to search for another website which did partner up with Ebates to get the cash back (although this sometimes doesn't work because the item you want is only exclusively at that specific website).
Ebates is a great way to get some money back while shopping and it doesn't make you feel too guilty when you're buying in a big bulk because the percent cash back is taken from the total, so technically the more you shop the more you get back. Plus, with the Family and Friend sales going on now, it's a great time to sign up for Ebates.
Love,
I'm missing a peacoat in my closet and it's a staple piece that wouldn't go out of style each winter. So, I was perfectly fine investing in a peacoat that would fit me well and is also made of fine good material.
I was browsing through J.Crew and saw so many nice coats on their website. Although on the pricier side, there was a 25% off code floating around during that time which made it less painful. I was looking at this, this and this but find it wasn't practical and I needed to focus on the peacoat.
That's when I found the Majesty Peacoat from them. On the model, it was the perfect cut. It even came in petite, regular and tall. I went in-store to get a fit on the coat but unfortunately they didn't have the color I wanted. The salesperson was nice enough to help me order it through the phone. If you order/purchase anything at or through the store, you get a 15% off student discount (with a valid ID card). I jumped at that opportunity and ordered the size and color I wanted.
The shipping was quick, I was so excited when I received it in the mail.
I had purchased the Majesty Peacoat in a size 4, heather charcoal (for reference, I am 5'4" and weigh about 120 pounds). When I tried it on, everything seemed to be a bit off. That wasn't the case in person when I tried on the same size but in the color navy. The sleeves are longer and the waist felt a lot wider with the heather charcoal.
To say the least, it wasn't flattering at all. It made me felt bulky and short. The reason might be because I had ordered it in regular instead of petite. But I really doubt the waist would be any narrower if I ordered it in petite. And I couldn't find any good reason to keep the coat and have it tailored. The material was really sturdy and can most likely keep you warm in weathers around 30-40°F since it's made of Italian wool.
Needless to say, I returned the coat because it wasn't exactly what I had in mind and wanted. At least I learned about the student discount.
Extremely warm and beautiful one day, blistering cold winds the other. I'm still a bit sick and this bipolar weather really isn't helping much.
JDL and I decided to take it easy this past Saturday. We were going to run some errands in the city and relax at the same time. Yea, I know it's quite hard to do that especially when you're surrounded by busy New Yorkers.
While we were mellowing it out Saturday, Friday was fun also. We got to try this new wine bar near his workplace. It was cute and we love the vibe. Vitis La Vineria was ran by 2 ladies and they sure made it work. It wasn't too busy or crowded which is a plus. JDL and I had 3 glasses each which included a glass of champagne on-the-house, so bubbly!
After that, we grabbed a late night bite at Yakiniku West. Love me some barbeque even though I reek of fumes and smoke afterwards. Might I add, it was a bit tough getting in and out of my seat since it's the Japanese "sink-hole" seats. You have to remove your shoes at the door, which then the waiter leads you to the dining area with cushions on the floor. Very comfortable.
Although I find myself not exactly in the spirit every year. Well, not to mention I'm feeling uber sick the past day or so. I'm not the kind that dresses up and goes to parties and whatnot just because I don't think I'll be able to handle the scare. I don't think I can ever do those haunted houses or haunted mazes in the amusement parks.
But I do enjoy watching horror movies, just not by myself. To me, Halloween would to be lounging at home comfortably and enjoying a marathon of Nightmare on Elm Street with a bowl of popcorn while hoping kids/adults would occasionally ring my doorbell for some treats. That's my Halloween.
So, instead of some creepy and dark outfit (although you can choose to think that I chose red because of blood). I chose a cheerful and bright top for work today. The infamous red hearts that were so popular a couple of months ago is slowly creeping back since the weather is getter a lot colder and a nice long sleeve button down shirt will always do the trick for a work outfit. I like to wear things out of the norm; like, I would not wear this on Valentine's Day.
I rarely see anything festive in midtown NYC but yesterday I saw these pumpkin patches on the busy streets of Herald Square. How cute! I also spotted the bat-mobile, convertible version, but was unable to take a photo since almost everyone was hovering around it. Maybe next time.
I don't understand the html and css coding to an extent that I can make my own layout but I do know the basics, like alignments, fonts, sizes and linking webpages and images. Plus, a lot of these can be searched on the internet if you have the time and effort. But creating a whole new layout for a blog would be too time consuming.
I really didn't know where to look for blogger templates but then I gave Etsy a shot since they basically have everything on that website. I totally hit the jackpot!
There were so many different layouts to choose from and you can even have the creator help you through private messaging them. I purchased mine from Pixelzine, this layout is called Strawberry Cheesecake. I instantly got drawn to the simplicity and hint of light pink. I messaged Andreea (the owner of the shop) and she was quite fast with answering my questions. I was confident in her help therefore I knew she would be a good seller to choose to do business with.
The process was simple. Once I purchased the item, there was a link for me to instantly download the whole file. Within the zip file, you basically have everything you need along with a document telling you how to install the new template.
There are many other templates by other authors/owners on Etsy you can choose from. This is definitely one of the easy way out to changing a blog layout.
Their pieces are simple, classic, and work appropriate. They're currently having half off of everything, in store. I'm contemplating if I should go or just pass and save up for something a lot grander.
Nonetheless, here are some pieces that I do like from them which are also season fitting.
They also have 30% off of full-priced sweaters, not sure if they're willing to combine that with the 50% off though.
